Disease Risk Prediction
Accurately predicting disease risk is critical for advancing agricultural plant and animal breeding and for improving health care for pets and humans. Genomic data provide an opportunity to realize this goal prior to fully understanding the genes underlying diseases. For example, we found that the top 100 influential genetic markers could more accurately predict Canine Hip Dysplasia (CHD) compared to using a few known genes to predict human hip dysplasia (Guo et al., Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, 2011).
