Ph.D. Student - Atit Parajuli

Atit is a Ph.D. Student in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at Washington State University under the supervision of Dr. Zhiwu Zhang. His research focuses on utilizing molecular Plant Breeding methods for quality and sustainable crop production. Currently, he is working on removing barrier to inbreeding depression in Alfalfa using Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) and Targeted Amplicon Sequencing (TAS) with Marker Assisted Selection (MAS) for developing inbred lines for Hybrid Production. He is interested in integrating bioinformatic tools, genetics and statistics for enhancing conventional Plant Breeding practices to speed up crop development program for quality, quantity and sustainability of production. He has a BS and MS degree in Agriculture from Agriculture and Forestry University, Nepal. During leisure time, he likes to watch sports and play guitar.
