Ph.D. Student - Zhou Tang

Zhou Tang is a Ph.D. candidate under supervision by Dr. Zhiwu Zhang in the Department of Crop and Soil Science at Washington State University in Pullman, WA. He has a multidisciplinary background from software engineer, machine learning, genetics and phenomics in plant and animal science. He received his B.S. in Animal Science and M.S. in Animal Genetics and Breeding at Huazhong Agriculture University in China. After graduation, Zhou was employed as a bioinformatics engineer in a biotechnology startup company to develop multi-omics data joint analysis pipeline from scratch. During his Ph.D. research, Zhou concentrates on the application of deep learning and remote sensing to advance precision agriculture. The software packages developed by him are aimed at reducing the obstacles to artificial intelligence application in agriculture. Besides his research work at WSU, Zhou actively explores the AI/machine learning requirements of the agriculture industry. He has completed two summer internships with Bayer and USDA-ARS/AISF. In his spare time, Zhou enjoys various sports, including football, ping-pong, basketball, and hiking, as well as music.
