Satellite Assisted Plant Breeding

It is a challenge to identify varieties visually, an extreme challenge to recognize them on satellite images, which is as hard as matching adult pictures to child pictures. However, the latter case becomes a solvable question through artificial intelligence. This project is to grow the known wheat varieties in experiment fields and image them with drones to mimic child pictures. The satellite images are used as adult pictures to recognize the varieties in the Palouse. If successful, it opens a new eye for plant breeding, production management, and marketing.
